India all-rounder Naman Dhir spoke about the pitch and India’s bowling during the pre-match press conference ahead of the third ODI against West Indies, which will be played in Mullanpur on October 3.

Speaking about the pitch, Naman said he had not seen the wicket yet and, despite hailing from Punjab, had no idea how it would play. He predicted that 290–300 could be a good score.

“I haven’t seen the wicket yet, so I can’t assess it at the moment. Maybe 290–300 can be a good score,” Naman said.

Further speaking about India’s bowling unit, Naman admitted that there was room for improvement after the last game.

“As a bowling unit, we want to do better. We want to restrict West Indies early,” he said. “We leaked a lot of runs in the last match. Our fast bowlers will be handy in South Africa, given the bounce.”

The part-time off-spinner also spoke about his own bowling, saying that he did not bowl in the IPL but bowled in the state league and continued to work on his bowling during practice sessions in the IPL.

“I didn’t bowl in the IPL, but I did bowl in the state league,” he said. “I worked on my bowling during the IPL as well.”

When asked about his batting role, Naman said that there were no fixed plans for his batting position. The right-handed batter said that he could bat in both the top and lower order and shared his experience of batting at No. 7 in the IPL.

“There are no fixed plans for batting. There will not be a lot of technical changes. I batted at No. 7 in the IPL as well, so I guess I can bat in the top order and in the lower order as well,” Naman stressed.

With the third ODI being played at his home ground, Naman said he wanted to keep things simple.

“I will keep it very simple while playing on my home ground. I am very grateful for it,” he said.

India will lock horns with West Indies on October 3 at Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in the dead-rubber ODI.
