New Zealand Recall Four Players for T20I Series Against Australia

New Zealand have included four returning players in their squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia in Sydney. Eden Carson, Molly Penfold, Hannah Rowe and Bella James have been named in the 15-member squad, led by Melie Kerr.

Carson returns to the national side after missing action since late last year due to elbow surgery. She will join Kerr, Nensi Patel and Flora Devonshire in the spin department.

Speaking about her comeback, Carson said she was happy to rejoin the White Ferns after a long recovery period. She also thanked her support team for helping her regain fitness and prepare for international cricket.

“To be back in the White Ferns environment is really special,” Carson said. “The rehab process has taken a lot of patience, but I’ve been fortunate to have great support around me, and I’m feeling ready to get back out there and contribute.”

Wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Gaze will miss the series as she continues her recovery from surgery on an ongoing thumb injury. Polly Inglis is expected to take over the wicketkeeping duties.

Molly Penfold and Hannah Rowe return to the squad following the retirements of Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu, while Bella James earns a place following Suzie Bates’ departure.

The series will provide New Zealand with valuable match practice ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, scheduled to be held in India. It will also be the team’s first series following the departure of former head coach Ben Sawyer.

New Zealand squad: Melie Kerr (C), Eden Carson, Flora Devonshire, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Izzy Sharp.
