Bedingham passes 1000-run mark for Durham

David Bedingham continued his prolific County Championship campaign with another half-century as rain disrupted Durham’s opening day against Northamptonshire.

David Bedingham passed 1000 County Championship runs for the season with an unbeaten half-century for Durham against Northamptonshire on Wednesday.

The Proteas batter was 57 not out when bad light and rain brought an early end to proceedings at Wantage Road, with Division Two leaders Durham on 129-3 after 30.5 overs.

Bedingham arrived at the crease with his side in trouble after Ben McKinney and Will Rhodes departed to leave Durham 16-2.

He steadied the innings alongside captain Alex Lees, with the pair adding 59 for the third wicket. Lees eventually fell to Yuzvendra Chahal for 24.

Bedingham remained composed through the interruptions and brought up his half-century after the final resumption of play. He struck nine fours during his unbeaten 57.

The innings also took Bedingham beyond 1000 runs in the County Championship this season, continuing an impressive campaign for the South African.

Mayank Agarwal was unbeaten on 25 alongside him when play was abandoned for the day.

Durham entered the match top of Division Two as they continued their push for promotion.
