South Africa’s Casandra Alexander cemented her status atop European women’s golf on Sunday, delivering a gritty wire-to-wire triumph at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at The K Club in County Kildare.
The 27-year-old Sunshine Ladies Tour standout held off a chasing pack through weather delays, wind, and late pressure to claim a three-stroke victory, capturing her second career Ladies European Tour (LET) title and solidifying her lead in the season-long LET Order of Merit.

Holding Her Nerve Under Pressure
Alexander entered the final round carrying a three-shot lead after opening with a blistering 63 on Thursday followed by rounds of 66 and 69. Sunday’s closing 18 holes, however, tested every ounce of the South African’s resolve.
After an uneasy start that saw her go two-over through the first three holes, Alexander’s lead shrunk to just one shot midway through the round as Czech challenger Sara Kouskova and home favourite Leona Maguire made charges.
Alexander rebounded with trademark composure, generating five birdies on the day to keep her pursuers at bay. A pivotal moment arrived late in the round following a 25-minute suspension due to lightning threats. Stepping back onto the green with heavy rain and blustery winds sweeping across the Kildare course, Alexander sank an 18-foot birdie putt to restore a three-shot cushion.
“I knew I was going to make that putt,” Alexander reflected after the round. “I told Doug [Pirie, my caddie], ‘I need to make this putt because I think this is going to be a bit of a momentum switch.’ From there, we played 16 in the toughest conditions of the day with huge winds and rain. We held it together.”
The South African also rode a wave of fortune earlier on the back nine when an errant bunker shot on the 11th struck a TV broadcast tower behind the green, deflecting safely to the green’s edge to set up an unlikely, crucial par save.
Breaking the Runner-Up Rut
The victory provides welcome redemption in what has been a brilliant but occasionally agonizing 2026 campaign. Despite holding the top spot in the LET Order of Merit, Alexander had endured five runner-up finishes this season alone.
This triumph marks her second LET silverware following her breakthrough victory at the Ladies Czech Open 14 months prior.
“This one’s really special,” said Alexander. “Always feel like the second win is almost as important as the first one because you know it’s not a fluke. So glad I could get that done.”
