Matt LaFleur feels great about rookie kicker Trey Smack
The Packers drafted kicker Trey Smack in the sixth round this year, then cut veterans Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik to leave Smack as the only kicker on the roster. Through two preseason games, that looks like a good decision.
On Friday night, Smack went 4-for-4 on field goals, including a 59-yarder, and last week he went 3-for-3, including a 58-yarder. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after Friday night's game that he loves what he's seeing from his rookie kicker. chickenroad-game.rodeo
"I feel great, but same thing, you've got to do it again," LaFleur said. "That's the thing about the National Football League, you're only as good as your last performance. He's put two pretty darn good performances back to back. The talent's there, he's just got to continue to be consistent."
Smack was the only kicker drafted this year, and drafting a kicker is always a gamble, as there's a long list of good college kickers who fell short of expectations as a pro. LaFleur is feeling confident that the Packers' gamble will pay off.

Chinese smartphone maker Honor’s self-developed humanoid robot Lightning ran the 100m in 9.32 seconds, beating the human world record, China’s state broadcaster reported.
The humanoid reached a peak speed of 14.5 meters per second during a preparatory test event for the second World Humanoid Robot Games, which begin on Saturday.

Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette missed Friday night's preseason game with what head coach Dave Canales described as a foot and ankle injury.
Legette had his ankle rolled up on in practice on Wednesday, and Canales said the Panthers don't know definitively how much time he'll miss.
"He got his ankle twisted up, he has some soreness in his foot, so we evaluated him," Canales said. "Right now we're going to get him back going little by little. Hopefully we'll see him at the end of this week, but I can't tell you exactly when he'll be back, but we'll just have to take it day by day and go with whatever is happening in his foot."
The Panthers took Legette in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and through two seasons he's been a disappointment, with just 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games. Legette acknowledged in June that he can’t have another year like he had last year. To have a better year, Legette needs to get healthy and stay healthy.
